  • Hello,

you should contact your employer to know if you are employed with sick pay or without it.

In case, you are employed with sick pay and you are on a sick leave 14 days or fewer, it is your employer than will pay out money to you.

In case, you are employed with sick pay and you are on a sick leave longer than 2 weeks your employer will report your sickness to Försäkringskassan once you have been sick for 14 days. You can check whether your employer has submitted a sickness report via My pages (Mina sidor). Then you can apply for sickness benefit from Försäkringskassan starting with day 15. Försäkringskassan needs a doctor's certificate with information about your illness or injury. You can ask your doctor to submit it electronically or send in the paper.

In case, you are employed without sick pay you should report your sickness to Försäkringskassan the very first day you are sick. You can do it here . Once you have reported your sickness, you can log in to My pages (Mina sidor) and apply for sickness benefit. If you are sick for more than 7 days, you must send in a doctor's certificate with information about your illness or injury.

If you want to know more about sickness benefit for employees and read about the process of how can apply and what happens after you send us your application, you can find the information here .

  • Hi!
I had been on sick leave for 2 weeks. Than I started to work again (worked for a week), but now I am sick again. Do I need doctor's certificate to go on a sick days again and do I have to apply to Försäkringskassan?

    Best regards

  • Hi Ed!

The first 14 days you are sick, your employer pays you sick pay instead of your regular salary. After that, you can apply for sickness benefit from Försäkringskassan. Försäkringskassan requires doctor’s certificate with information about your illness with the application. You can ask your doctor to submit it electronically or send in the paper.

In your case, after that you returned to work for a week, a new sick period has started. It means that your employer will pay out money to you for the first 14 days of sickness. Once you have been sick for 14 days, your employer will report your sickness to Försäkringskassan.

  • Hello,
    Thank you for your question.

As Natalia explained in the first question (28 nov 2016) on this thread, if you are employed without sick pay you should report your sickness to Försäkringskassan via this link the very first day you are sick.

As you see the steps for the application here under the title “How do I apply?”>”If you are employed without sick pay” you must send in a doctor's certificate with information about your illness or injury if you are sick for more than 7 days. If you are sick for two days, then you do not need to send in a doctor report.
