Parental leave if I have my child abroad

Hello,

I was working in Sweden for about 12 years until the beginning of July 2021. Now I'm looking for a new job and I'm receiving a-kassa benefits. I'm expecting my first child now (26 weeks pregnant).

My partner is working in Italy (my home country) and I would like to know if I temporarily move abroad (for less than one year since one month before my due date) and inform skattverket and försäkringskassan of that, I am still entitled to parental leave from Sweden.

Best regards and thank you in advance for your reply!

  • Many thanks for your kind reply.
So, if I well understood, I do not need to send other certificates before my child is born. I will just send the birth certificate to försäkringskassan aftern giving birth to my child.
Thank you again for your reply!

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your post.

As it is mentioned in the linked post we also have to deduct parental benefit days taken in another EU-country. This is why you should also attach a certificate for the other parent from Italian agency about taken/non-taken parental benefit there.

You can send in a certificate from doctor or midwife that you are pregnant and when the due date is if there is still time. Otherwise you can send in only birthcertificate and certificate from the Italian Agency for social Insurance together with an application for parental benefit.

If we don't have the certificate from midwife about the due date there will not be a possibility to apply via our e-service. In this situation you will have to call us to order a paper form.

    Kontakta Försäkringskassan (forsakringskassan.se)

  • Thank you for the clarification. I now have my pregnancy certificate from my doctor in Italy.
If I well understood, I now need to send it by post to försäkringskassan. No registration is needed right now to your website...right? I will do the registration once you have received the document?
    Thank you!

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your post.

If by "registration" on our website you mean to fill in the application for parental benefit then you have to wait until the certificate from the midwife is registered in our system and you can see the baby's due date on your "My Pages" (Mina Sidor).
