Parental leave for over a year

Dear Försakringskassan,

Can I use my parental leave days all at once? I'm home with our son for almost a year now but in the meantime our daughter was born so i'm considering to expand my parental leave. Is there a maximum number of days that can be used without interruption? As long as i inform my employer 2-3 months upfront can they prevent me from acting so? Thank you very much for your kind answer in advance. Best regards,

  • Hello!

    Thank you for your post.

Generally, as long as you have parental benefit days left, you could take them however you plan to.

In the case of your employer you will need to notify your employer at least two months in advance. When you notify your employer that you will be on parental leave, you must also say how long you plan to be on leave.
At some workplaces, there may be collective bargaining agreements with different rules so it may be good to speak with the labor union and the employer to find out what applies.

Since it is a public forum, it is difficult for us to answer to questions regarding specific cases.
