Parental benefit while another partner is home and not working.

Hi,
I am employed and would like to avail parental benefit with Sickness benefit level. My spouse is a house wife and she stays at home and not started receiving any benefit money yet, though she had applied for it 4 months back.
My daughter is 3 years 4 months now and as far as I know we are not entitled to double days.
Still I am allowed to take a parental leave for around 86 days while my wife not working and staying at home same time.

Another question is related to working days. I work 5 days a week and while applying for parental leave shall I mark only Mon-Fri and not Sat and Sund? Or shall I mark all 7 days of the week while applying for parental vacation.

  • Hello,

Thank you for your post. You can apply for parental benefits as long as your wife has not applied for the same period and for the same child also.

Since your child is over one year you do not have right to double days.

Regarding your other question, you should apply for parental benefits at least five days in a week to be able to protect your sickness benefit qualifying income (SGI). There is no requirement for what days in a week must be included.

If you apply for seven days in a week the monthly payment will be higher than if you apply for five days in a week, but you will use up more of your days in that way.

    Best regards,
    Dina
