Parental benefit when moved in with 1.5yrs old kid

Hi,

I have moved in to Sweden a year back and at that time my kid was 1.5 years old and registered my kid in forsakringskassan at the same time. Now I wanted to take parental leave and I thought I will receive 80% salary but I was denied saying that I need to have 82,100 sek before birth of child and instead I was getting only 250 sek. Does this mean that those who come to Sweden with a kid already ... wont get 80% salary ever? Let me know...

  • Hello!

    Thank you for your post!

Our general rule states that, in order to receive parental benefit at sickness benefit level, you must have had an annual income of at least SEK 82,100 for at least 240 consecutive days before the estimated delivery date.

In the case of a child born outside of Sweden or the EU, then the parental benefit is SEK 250 per day at sickness benefit level.
However, after you, the other parent or you both together have taken out 180 parental benefit days, you receive parental benefit based on your income, but a minimum of SEK 250 per day at sickness benefit level.

In need of more information about parental benefit, please read here, or dial to 0771 524 524 and press 8 to get connected to the English line.

Our telephone lines are open the following hours:
    Monday – Friday 8.00am — 4.00 pm
