Is parental benefits/barn bidrag linked to a child's Visa application?

Hi,

We have been residing in sweden for the past 10 years and have a valid permanent residency. We are both employed as well in Sweden. Recently we have become parents and were wondering the following:

1. Is the parental benefit dependent on the new born child's visa application? Can we receive parental benefit starting the day the child is born even if we apply for the Child's visa later?
2. Same question regarding BarnBidrag. The child was born in sweden and is registered in folbokföring the day of birth + has a personal number. Do we start receiving barn bidrag the month after childbirth OR is barnbidrag also dependent on the Child's visa application submission to Migrationsverket?
3. We could not find any information regarding the above points in the försäkringskassan website.

Thanks!

  • Hi,
    Thanks for replying.
I didnt ask for our case. It is a general question.

When is the föraldrapenning and barn bidrag paid out. Does it depend on the child's visa status in any way?

  • Hello,

Thank you for your post. Both benefits are dependent on the residence permit of the child. However if an application form is registered in the Migraitons Board, Försäkringskassan may not necessarilly wait until decision is made by the Migration Board. Each department may assess the situation and starts paying out these benefits before any decision of the case is done in the Migrations office.

    Best regards,
    Adem Administrative officer
