Insurance while waiting for the PN

Hej hej,
I will be moving to Sweden next month with my 4yearsold and my sambo. I am 3 months pregnant so I am trying to prepare my arrival at the best.
We will apply for the PN as soon as we arrive, but my concern is about the health insurance, given my pregnancy. How soon can I ask for the health insurance with you? Do I need to wait for the PN or can I do it before?  I know that the wait for the PN can take even several months in some cases.
We are moving from France, so I do have my European Health Insurance Card that is valid; but I do not understand what happens when I am no longer insured in France because I moved out of the country? Does the European Card cover everything pregnancy related?
Should I look into a private insurance?
I am open to every suggestion you might have for my situation.
Thank you in advance,

  • Hello
Thank you for your post. If you are planning to live in Sweden, you are generally required to be registered in the Swedish Population Register.
Once you will be given a Swedish personal identity number, you are entitled to medical and dental care under the same terms as others who live in Sweden.
More about that here and here

    Best regrads,
  • Thank you very much for your reply.
My question is more about the time while I wait for the PN, what do I do while I am waiting?
    Thank you,

  • Hello,

Thank you for your question. If your question is more of the medical access (in the health stations or hospitals in Sweden) while you are waiting your personal number then this is more related to the regional municipality (landstinget) where you are living because Försäkringskassan can not register you (or pay any benefits) before you get your personal number.

For further information on your specific situation you can contact our customer centre is 0771-524 524 (press 8 for english).

    We have the following hours:

    Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.

    Best regards,

    Adem Administrative officer
