Calculation of payments

Hi, I would like to know, how försäkringskassan calculate for the parental leave on the basis of sjukpenningnivå per day and  sick leave for child per day. Can you give the example for each.
Thank you!

  • Hi;

    For parental leave, we take your annual qualifying income (sjukpenninggrundande inkomst), multiply it by 0.97, then by 0.8, and then divide it by 365 days in the year.

    So for example if you have an annual qualifying income of 325,000 crowns, we then multiply that amount by 0.97, then by 0.8, and then we divide it by 365 to get the daily amount. This leaves you with a payment of 690 crowns for a full day. Your annual qualifying income for parental benefit may not be higher than 455,000 crowns.

    If you care for a sick child and apply for VAB, the calculation is done slightly differently. Your annual qualifying income is once again multiplied by 0.97 and then by 0.8, but the next division is not by 365 days in the year but by the person's working time per year. For people who work full-time from Monday to Friday this is often 260 days, but it can also be calculated in hours per year, or a different number of days, depending on how much the person works.

    If you have an annual qualifying income of 325,000 crowns and work full-time from Monday to Friday, this could look like this: we take your annual qualifying income, multiply it by 0.97 and then by 0.8, and then divide it by 260 because that is how many days you work per year. So with that you have a payment of 970 crowns for a full day. Remember that in the case of the care of child allowance, the income limit is 341,200 crowns.

    You can find more information about parental benefit here , and about care of a child here.

    Best regards;
